Orange Money Expansion: What It Means for Merchants

Orange Money's expansion strategy in Liberia has shifted notably in the past year. Orange Money's merchant network in Liberia grew from approximately 2,800 active merchant accounts at the end of 2024 to over 6,200 by January 2026. This growth has been concentrated in several areas:

Monrovia and suburbs. The Waterside Market area, Randall Street, and the Sinkor commercial district have seen the highest density of new merchant signups.

County capitals. Orange has made a deliberate push into Gbarnga, Buchanan, Kakata, and Voinjama, targeting businesses that were previously cash-only.

Training requirements. Staff need to be trained on how to process Orange Money payments, handle reversals, and verify transaction confirmations. This is manageable but requires upfront investment.
